Kareena Kapoor casted in Q mobile’s most costly advert of Pakistan

kk

It would not be surprising news that any bollywood star is appearing in our local advertisement as by far, there have been several TVCs on-aired that prominently highlights those actors. This time, Qmobile has taken up with this prospect, by casting rockstar heroine, Kareena Kapoor in their upcoming advert.

According to recent reports, to shoot a television commercial for Pakistani smartphone brand, Qmobile, Kareena Kapoor Khan took off to Bangkok this week. Under the hood, this advert will be directed by Farooq Mannan, famed as The ‘Imtiaz Ali’ of Pakistan’s advertising among several people particularly in Indians. In this niche, Mr. Farooq has formerly done with Q mobile‘s ad featuring Aditya Roy Kapoor, the lead cast of Aashiqui2.

Together with the team, this ad is taking up services of international technicians as well as Pakistan’s best one. So like all fantastic aspects, Kareena has charged her standard amount for supporting an International brand add surrounded by the additional charges for making flight to abroad. Seemingly, Farooq Mannan has also requested a Director of Production from New York to be a part of this venture. So undoubtedly, this ad will prove to be the most expensive television commercial in Pakistan’s advertising record.

Moreover, a fervent source has mentioned Kareena’s interest in Pakistani advertising and that she was previously unaware of Farooq Mannan and his spectacular directorial skills as well as his earlier endeavors. But after looking upon his latest commercial for the same cellphone company with star cast of Iman Ali (famed by Pakistani International super hit Khuda Kay Liye), Kareena consequently agreed to make an appearance in this Mobile ad.

What makes Q mobile inspired to stars Bollywood actor!

However, this is a trend set up by most of Pakistani Companies to feature international talent particularly Bolloywood ones but recently, the Indian cellphone brand MicroMax (that’s a QMobile’s Indian version)was shown up Hollywood’s superb talent, Hugh Jackman and incredibly, this  attempt created a total buzz among the Indian society.

As well as, Priyanka Chopra representing LUMIA series in Nokia TVCs can also be said as an avid stimulation due to which Q mobile is taking one after other Bollywood stars in its commercials. So, let’s just wait and watch the upcoming super expensive TVC ever shown in Pakistan!

Pakistani Users are Putting their Internet into a New Gear

Pakistani users are shifting their Internet into a new gear in 2014, which will be the year mobile Internet overtakes desktop Internet, according to a new survey sponsored by Google.

While desktop is dominant with 91 percent owning a PC at home, 45 percent also own a smartphone or tablet. 18 percent cite the latter as their primary device. Mobile devices are gaining momentum: 86 percent use PCs to access the Internet daily, 77 percent use smartphones, 73 percent use feature phones and 59 percent use tablets daily.

Image

This trend follows a decline in the prices of smartphones and tablets, and anticipated launch of 3G services. Internet-capable feature phones are expected to continue to play an important role, too. An additional factor is the unreliability of the electricity supply which is also helping to promote the usage of tablets and smartphones in Pakistan.

“We think 2014 is the year mobile Internet overtakes desktop Internet in Pakistan. Consumers are really starting to embrace smartphones and tablets,” said Tania Aidrus, Manager for Asian Growth Markets, Google Asia Pacific.

These findings come from a survey of over 1,000 Pakistanis by research firm IDC on behalf of Google. The “Pakistan Digital Consumer Study” conducted earlier this quarter took a look at the life of the connected Pakistani consumer.

Pakistani digital consumers are engaging more with the Internet than ever before: of those surveyed, 70 percent spend time daily on the Internet while 60 percent say it is also where they liked to spend most of their personal time. Watching TV (41 percent) and reading the newspaper (24 percent) combined ranked lower than the Internet.

The study revealed that home is the preferred location for Internet access — even for mobile-only users, who prefer to use their home wi-fi connection. The average hours spent on the Internet are 2.25 hours a day on weekdays and 3 hours a day on weekends.

The top three activities in Pakistan both on desktop and mobile Internet are: social media, email and general search. Interestingly, digital Pakistanis like to learn on their smartphones with educational content coming in fourth. Also popular on smartphones are online banking, researching financial services and investment, and bill payments — pointing to a near future where digitally literate Pakistanis make the Web work for them.

The main challenge of Internet proliferation in Pakistan are the quality and reliability of connectivity — including poor speed or bandwidth availability, perceived value-for-money, customer service quality, limited choice of plans and frequency of service interruptions. The unreliability of the power supply is also a factor.

With digital Pakistanis living more of their lives online, the main opportunities are related to the economic contribution of the Internet, especially for small-medium businesses, as well as nutritious and local Internet content: education, research, financial services.

There are over 2 billion Internet users today. Throughout the 2000s, the Internet has been defined by developed countries, but it is now being defined by massive, developing countries like Pakistan.

“Emerging markets are starting from mobile, so if we lower Internet access barriers to consumers, businesses and communities, then we can expect growth far more rapid than what we’re already seeing,” said Aidrus.

As other markets have demonstrated, growth on the Internet encourages growth across the economy. More businesses online means more information for people and incentives to create better networks and content that better reflect local culture and needs. That will make the Internet more valuable and the economy stronger for Pakistan.

Zong Becomes the First Telecom Operator to Deploy Biometric Verification System

Zong has become the first mobile operator in Pakistan to implement Biometric Verification System at their customer service centers. The installation of the Biometric Verification Systems displays the commitment of Zong towards PTA directives; highlighting its compliance and contributions in the national policies implementation.

SIM verification mechanisms were first introduced in Pakistan in 2007-2008. Initially, all the SIMs were verified by NADRA through an offline channel. In 2009, a new method was introduced where customers had to call 789 after inserting their SIM for the first time and verify their NADRA record to activate their SIM. From 2009 to 2012, a SMS based SIM verification process was introduced in four different phases. However, none of these measures helped PTA overcome the problem of unregistered SIMs.  Hence, PTA is now encouraging telecom operators to start offering biometric system to have a foolproof system to curtail unregistered SIM.

The new verification system introduced by Zong will require each citizen to approach retailer, franchisee or Customer Service Centers of Zong and provide their fingerprints for authentication against CNIC data held with NADRA. Upon verification, the SIM will be activated. The entire operation will be performed online and it will take 15 seconds for the whole process to complete.

Syed Ismail Shah, chairman, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) commended Zong for being the first telecom operator to introduce Biometric SIM Verification. He said, “PTA is dedicated to curbing sale of illegal SIMs in Pakistan for which it is working with all the industry stakeholders to ensure seamless implementation of Biometric SIM Verification system. We have defined a set of SOPs for the roll out of this technology through which sale of SIMs will be done in a more secure manner”. The first SIM activated at Zong’s Customer Care Center through the Biometric Verification System was given to Mr. Abdus Samad, DG Enforcement, PTA.

The system was demonstrated real-time to the leading journalists and the media community by Mr. Sikander Naqi, CPO – Zong. On the occasion he said: “Zong is fully committed for the enhancement and improvement of security protocols in the telecommunication industry. Therefore, we have exhibited our corporate responsibility by establishing the Biometric Verification System at our CSC outlets. This technology will be gradually inducted across all franchises and CSC outlets of Zong around the country”.

Since earlier this year, PTA and the Government of Pakistan have emphasized the need to setup technological measures to ensure the protection of customer information and to curb the selling of illegal SIMS in the country. In the wake for boosting national security and addressing the ministries concern, Zong has become the torch-bearer in Pakistan’s telecom industry stepping up to the arduous task under the guidelines issued by PTA and with the support of NADRA.

It is great to see that people can see through that and are admiring the efforts put into this movie by the entire team. This is for the dawn of new Pakistani cinema!
